Catamounts Fall on the Road at Wofford

 Score: Wofford 72, Western Carolina 48

 Location: Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium, Spartanburg, S.C.  
 
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina women's basketball opened Southern Conference play with a 72-48 loss at Wofford Thursday at Jerry Richardson Stadium. 
 
Turning Point:
A tight game, with Wofford leading 35-30 with 9:16 left in the third quarter, ballooned out of control when Wofford scored 12 consecutive points and held Western Carolina to seven points. Western Carolina could not recover. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Sophomore Zanoria Cruz led the Catamounts with 11 points.
  • Sophomore Joi Reid had a career-high four blocks. She also had eight points and five rebounds.
  • Junior Vanessa Oduah added 10 points.
  • Wofford's Jackie Carman led all scorers with 17 points.
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • After leading early 6-3, Western Carolina cut the Wofford lead, to one, twice in the first quarter but never led again.
  • The Catamounts were held to seven points in the third quarter. 
  • Wofford outscored WCU 25-13 in the fourth quarter.
  • The Terriers just edged Western Carolina in rebounds with 35 to the Catamounts 25.
  • Western Carolina turned the ball over 16 times as Wofford scored 15 points off the Catamount miscues.
  • Wofford hit 10 three-pointers in the game with six coming in the fourth quarter. Western Carolina hit four three-pointers.
  • Wofford shot 38.2 percent from the field and Western Carolina shot 30 percent. 
  • The Catamounts went to the free-throw line six times hitting four. Wofford was 10-of-14 from the charity stripe. 
 
 News & Notes
  • The Catamounts had a season-high six blocks against Wofford. The six blocks against the Terriers are tied for 22nd for most in a game in program history.
  • Cruz has scored in double figures in the last three games and four of the last five.
  • Reid's four blocks rank tied for ninth in the WCU record books for blocks in a game.
  • Oduah scored in double figures for the first time in three games.
  • Madison Pack and Endia Holliday returned to the hardwood after missing the Jan. 2 game against Montreat due to COVID protocols.
