Pack Scores Career-High 18 in Loss at Furman

Catamounts hit season-high 10 three-pointers

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Madison Pack poured in a career-high 18 points, leading three Western Carolina women's basketball players in double figures, as the Catamounts dropped a road contest 71-59 to Furman Saturday in Bon Secours Wellness Center.
 
Turning Point:
Timely scoring runs and 27 trips to the free-throw line, in which Furman hit 19 from the charity stripe, was the key in the Paladins' victory. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Graduate student Pack led all scorers with her career-best 18 points. She also tied her career-high with four three-pointers. 
  • Freshman Bailey Trumm also connected on four three-pointers and logged in 12 points. 
  • Redshirt junior Nadia Marshall had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Tate Walters led Furman with 17 points. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Western Carolina, down 21-11, after the first quarter but battled back to trail by two, 23-21, with 7:18 left in the second. Trumm took a three-pointer shot the circled the rim and rolled out. It would have given the Catamounts a 24-21 lead, instead, Furman turned the Catamounts' misfortune into a 15-0 run. WCU would never come that close to the Paladins again.
  • Furman pounded the glass ripping down 48 rebounds to Western Carolina's 30.
  • The Paladins had 33 offensive boards and scored 20 second chance points. 
  • Western Carolina sank a season-high 10 three-pointers. Furman had 10. 
  • The Catamounts had seven trips to the free-throw line hitting five. 
  • Western Carolina turned the ball over 18 times and Furman scored 19 points off the Catamount miscues. 
  • The Catamount bench scored 27 of its 59 points. 
  • Furman built a 24-point lead, 63-39, with 8:26 left in the game. Western Carolina didn't quit and outscored Furman 20-8 in the final eight minutes of the game. 
 News & Notes
  • Pack usurped her previous career-high of 14 points with her 18-point performance against Furman. Her previous career-high was when she was with Columbia facing Colgate in 2018. It was also the last time she scored in double figures in a game. 
  • The four three-pointers by Trumm are a career-high. Her 12 points mark the second time this season she has scored in double figures.
  • Western Carolina's 10 three-pointers are the most in a game for the Catamounts since hitting 10 against Samford, in the SoCon Tournament, on Mar. 5, 2020. 
  • The Catamounts have hit 21 of its 58 three-pointers in the last three games. 
  • Marshall notched her third double-double of the season. 
  • Cruz had her double-figure scoring streak snapped at three consecutive games scoring seven points.
