CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Zanoria Cruz led all scorers with 18 points, and Tembre Moates entered the 500-rebound club, as Western Carolina women's basketball fell at home 62-47 to Samford Thursday on Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center. 
 
Turning Point:
Tied at 31, with 7:25 left in the third quarter, Samford closed out the quarter on a 16-4 run building a 47-36 lead heading to the fourth. The Bulldogs used that burst to secure the road win.  
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Cruz led all scorers with 18 points going 6-for-14 from the field and draining three treys. Her 18 points tie her season-high.  
  • Junior Vanessa Oduah had 10 points hitting a pair of three-pointers and going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. She also had a pair of blocks.
  • Redshirt junior Nadia Marshall just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. 
  • Andrea Cournoyer paced Samford with 15 points. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • The Bulldogs shot 45 percent from the field while the Catamounts were at 31 percent. 
  • Samford ripped down 40 rebounds to the Catamounts' 33.
  • Each team hit five three-pointers. 
  • Western Carolina had 16 turnovers and Samford turned it into 14 points. 
  • The Bulldogs scored 34 of its 62 points inside the paint. 
  • Western Carolina shot 76.9 percent from the free-throw line hitting 10-of-13. Samford was 13-of-21. 
  • Western Carolina won the second quarter outscoring Samford 14-13 and an Oduah banked three-pointer at the buzzer had WCU down by three, 28-25 at the half.

  • Moates becomes the 30th Catamount in women's basketball program history to gain entrance into the 500-rebound club. She has exactly 500 rebounds in her career. 
  • Cruz has scored in double figures in four of her last five games. In that five-game stretch, she is averaging 13.8 points per game. 
  • Western Carolina has hit 30 of its 63 three-pointers this season in the last five games.
