CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's soccer picked up a key point in the Southern Conference race with a 0-0 defensive battle with UNCG Friday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

Individual Leaders:
  • Naya Marcil had four shots in the match for WCU with one shot on goal.
  • Kirsten Hahn was just behind Marcil with three shots.
  • Rookie goalkeeper Leanne Trudel played the full 90 minutes in goal and had two saves in the contest.
 Inside the Box Score
  • Western Carolina had its offensive chances with 15 shots on goal with six being shots on goal.
  • The Catamount defense was stifling holding UNCG to just two shots in the first half. The Spartans managed five shots in the second half for a total of only seven in the contest. Two of the Spartans seven shots were on goal, but they were effortless saves for Trudel thanks to the Catamounts' defensive pressure.
  • One of the Catamounts' strong chances to score came from Maggie Lloyd as her shot, early in the second half, went to the bottom center of the game but Spartan goalie Abby Buchholz was there to save a goal.
  •  UNCG's one true threat to score came early in the first half, at the 12th minute, when Trudel was pulled out of the goal and Hannah Morton's shot was too strong going wide right.

  • Western Carolina's fifth tie on the year ties the program record set in 2005.
