CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Western Carolina volleyball team closes out the 2022 regular season on Saturday, welcoming chromatic rival Furman to Ingles Court at the Ramsey Center for a 6 p.m. contest.
Admission to all volleyball matches is free of charge with the entrance to the Ramsey Center located on the ground level near the truck tunnel which is adorned by the WCU logo. The match will be streamed on ESPN+
(paid subscription required) with free live stats available on CatamountSports.com.
Prior to Saturday's match, seniors
Sydney Carlson,
Merry Gebel,
Brooklyn Poling, and
Johnna Robinson will be honored in a special ceremony.
WCU heads into the season finale with a 17-10 overall record and a 10-5 SoCon record following a 3-0 home victory against UNCG on Wednesday evening. Gebel led the Catamounts with a match-best 13 kills while
Destinee Dorsey and
Bailey Hartsough both recorded 10 digs.
Furman heads into the final weekend of the season at 6-18 overall and 2-12 in league matches. The Paladins face UNCG on their home court Friday evening before heading to Cullowhee on Saturday. Mary Beth Headley leads Furman and ranks sixth in the league in kills per set with 3.11. Sarah Turner is ninth with 6.11 assists per set.
Saturday's match is the 85
th all-time meeting between the schools with Furman holding a 46-38 edge. The Catamounts have won the last four matches including a hard-fought 3-2 win in Greenville on Oct. 14.
WCU will compete in the Southern Conference Tournament in Greenville, S.C. on Nov. 18-20.
