Catamounts Get Road Win at USC Upstate

Three score in double figures in the victory

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Shayane Poirot-Allard scored a career-high 19 points leading three Catamounts in double figures as Western Carolina women's basketball picked up its first road win of the season defeating USC Upstate 58-48 Friday at Hodge Center. 
 
Turning Point:
Western Carolina found a second gear after leading only by one, 12-11, after the first quarter. The Catamounts outscored the Spartans 34-21 in the second and third quarters and benefitted from three second-quarter three-pointers by Poirot-Allard. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Poirot-Allard led all scorers with 19 points hitting five three-pointers.
  • Rookie Reagan Trumm tied her career-high with 15 points.
  • Junior Mya Love added 12 points, scoring 10 of her 12 in the second half.
  • Junior Ewa Kielar ripped down a career-high 10 rebounds.
  • Junior Audrey Meyers swiped a career-best seven steals. 
  Inside the Box Score
  • Western Carolina shot 35.3 percent from the field including 54.5 percent in the third quarter.
  • The Catamounts did not allow USC Upstate to connect on a three-pointer in the second half as the Spartans were 0-for-9.
  • WCU hit six three-pointers and USC Upstate had just two.
  • Western Carolina forced USC Upstate to turn the ball over 28 times turning it into 23 points.
  • The Spartans outrebounded the Catamounts 42-29 including 30 offensive rebounds but could only turn that advantage into six second-chance points.
  • Western Carolina has 13 steals in the game while the Spartans had six. 
  • The Catamounts were 12-of-21 from the free throw line and 8-for-12 in the fourth quarter. WCU was 4-for-4 from the charity stripe in the final 52 seconds of the game.

  • Meyers' seven steals is the second-highest single-game mark in program history. 
  • Western Carolina has hit six three-pointers in back-to-back games and three of the last four.
  • Poirot-Allard has hit five three-pointers in a game in two of the first five games.
  • The win over USC Upstate halts a two-game slide and is the Catamounts' first road win of the season.
  • Western Carolina is now 2-1 over teams from the Big South. 
  • Kielar is the second Catamount this season to pull down double-figure rebounds. Endia Holliday had 12 in the season opener against Bluefield on Nov. 7.
  • Trumm and Love have scored in double figures in back-to-back games. Love has scored double digits in three of her last four.
  • Trumm has hit at least one three-pointer in the last three games.
