Allison's 20 Points Paces Catamounts to Victory

Location: Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center – Cullowhee, N.C.   
 
CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Graduate student Kyla Allison scored 14 second half points, ending the game with a game-leading 20, as Western Carolina women's basketball closed out its non-conference schedule with a 64-46 win over Southern Wesleyan on Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center. 
 
Turning Point:
Western Carolina shot 41.5 percent from the field, holding the Warriors to 21.4 percent, and was proficient at the free throw line hitting 15-of-22.
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Allison had 20 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
  • Joi Reid came off the bench to pour in 12 points and was also 4-of-7 from the free throw line.
  • Sophomore Jacey Justice got her first start of the season hitting three three-pointers, for nine points, and ripped down seven rebounds.
  • Tristen Berry led Southern Wesleyan with 12 points.
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • For the first time in two games Western Carolina got out to a hot start scoring 23 first quarter points. Overall, WCU shot 61.6 percent from the field in the first 10 minutes of the contest.
  • The game was tied twice early but Endia Holliday's field goal, just outside the paint, at the 6:43 mark of the first quarter, handed the Catamounts a 6-4 lead and WCU never trailed again.
  • WCU enjoyed its largest lead, of 23 points, with 2:46 left in the third quarter, before Southern Wesleyan made a mini run.
  • The Warriors cut the Catamount lead to 12, with 5:08 remaining but WCU scored the final six points of the game.
  • Western Carolina worked the paint against the Warriors scoring 24 points.
  • As a team Western Carolina dished out 13 assists. 
  • WCU got the rebounding edge with 47 to Southern Wesleyan's 35. 
  • The Catamounts had five three pointers while Southern Wesleyan had six.
  • WCU got 18 points from its bench.
 
News & Notes
  • Allison has scored in double figures in the last four games and six of the last seven. 
  • Allison scored 20 or more points for the second time this season and is the only Catamount to pour in 20 or more points twice this season.
  • Western Carolina has dished out double digit assists nine times on the year.
  • The Catamounts halted a two-game losing streak with the win over Southern Wesleyan.
  • Western Carolina's seven wins on the year equals the Catamounts' point total from 2021-22. It is the first time WCU has had seven non-conference wins, before the start of Southern Conference play, since 2014-15 when the club won eight.
  • Justice's seven rebounds is a career high.
  • Her nine points ties her career high.
  • Reid just missed tying her career-high with 12 points one under her best mark of 13 she scored twice in her career. 
  • Reid also dished out a season-best four assists. 
  • Western Carolina's 64 points is the fifth best point total this season and the fifth total time the Catamounts have scored 60 or more points.
