CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Western Carolina track & field teams compete in their final indoor tune-up ahead of the Southern Conference Championships this Friday and Saturday as the Catamounts head to Lexington, Va., and the VMI Winter Classic held at the Corps Physical Training Center (CPTC), which will also serve as the host for the conference championship meet.

In addition to the Catamounts and meet host VMI, SoCon foes ETSU and Wofford along with Bucknell, Catawba, Davis & Elkins, Gardner-Webb, George Mason, George Washington, Lincoln Memorial, Loyola (Md.), Mansfield, Mary Baldwin, Mount Olive, Shenandoah, Shippensburg, Tusculum, Ursinus, and Washington & Lee are expected to compete.
The meet begins on Friday at 1 p.m. with the women's 60-meter hurdle preliminaries, men's weight throw, women's weight throw, men's triple jump, and women's pole vault. Friday's action concludes with the men's and women's 4x800-meter relay. On Saturday, the meet continues at 10 a.m. with the men's mile, men's shot put, men's long jump, and men's pole vault before concluding with the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay shortly before 5 p.m.
In its last competition at the South Carolina Invitational on Jan. 28-29, WCU tallied two events wins along with multiple top-five and top-10 performances.
Ryan Eldridge was named the SoCon Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his winning throw of 16.30 meters in the shot put.
Javell Brown earned his second win of the indoor season in the men's triple jump.
Marissa Blakely set a school record in the women's 300-meter dash with a time of 40.02.
WCU returns to the CPTC on Feb. 26-27 for the 2022 Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
