LEXINGTON, Va. – Western Carolina recorded three event wins along with multiple top-five and top-10 finishes to conclude the VMI Winter Classic at the Corps Physical Training Center (CPTC).
Marissa Blakely won the women's 200-meter dash with an indoor personal-best time of 25.15.
Kate Mattison won the women's mile with a personal-best time of 5:01.78. Mattison's time is the third-best in the event in program history. Later in the meet, Mattison earned a third-place result in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.20.
Blakely led a trio of Catamounts in the top-10 of the women's 500-meter dash after finishing in second place with a personal-best time of 1:16.37.
Mekyll Robinson ran a personal-best time of 1:17.74 to finish in sixth place followed by
Mikayla Turner in ninth with a personal best time of 1:19.81.
Makaila McIntyre was the runner-up in the women's 60-meter dash with a time of 7.68.
The women's distance medley relay team of
Sara Klemm,
Kate Mattison,
Madelynn Duffield, and
Alesea Caldwell finished third with a time of 12:58.00.
In the final event of the day, the women's 4x00-relay team of Robinson, Blakley, McIntyre, and Turner teamed up for a time of 3:55.88.
Sydney Runyan was fifth in the women's 3000-meter run with a time of 10:30.72.
Dami Shodeinde placed sixth in the women's 60-meter hurdle finals after a finishing time of 9.17.
The men's distance medley relay team of
Will Mitchell,
Trevor Bone,
Jalen Elwell, and
Justin Hayes claimed first place with a time of 10:21.30.
Michael Harris ran a personal-best time of 1:05.01 to finish in second place in the men's 500-meter dash. Harris now holds the third-fastest time in program history in the event.
Zae Smith gave the Catamounts two finishers in the top-10 after he finished ninth with a time of 1:08.84.
Javell Brown finished in second place in the men's long jump with a top mark of 7.17 meters (23'6.25").
Kaleb Ambrose was third in the men's 60-meter hurdle finals after running a season-best time of 8.41.
Elwell earned a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run after completing the race with a time of 1:54.90.
Ryan Eldridge was fifth in the men's shot put with a throw of 15.17 meters (49'9.25").
Brandon Harvey finished fifth in the men's high jump after he cleared a height of 1.95 (6'4.75").
Khadevis Snead tied for ninth in the event after he cleared the bar set at (6'0.75").
Thomas Martin tied for sixth in the men's pole vault after he cleared a height of 4.35 meters (14'3.25").
Mitchell finished seventh in the men's mile with a personal-best time of 4:18.69.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Harris,
Kevin Haley, Jr.,
Marcus Brown, and
Tyler Manigault earned an eighth-place finish with a time of 3:21.31.
WCU is off next weekend before competing in the Southern Conference Championship on Feb. 26-27 hosted by VMI in Lexington, Va.
