Catamounts Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Short Against ETSU

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's basketball's comeback attempt fell short Thursday as the Catamounts fell at home to ETSU 58-51 on Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center.
 
Turning Point:
ETSU hit eight three-pointers, was 14-of-15 from the free-throw line, and held Western Carolina to 20 first-half points. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Zanoria Cruz led the Catamounts with 15 points and also dished out five assists. 
  • Bailey Trumm followed Cruz with 11 points hitting three treys in the game.
  • Endia Holliday had a balanced attack of six points and eight rebounds. 
  • ETSU's Courtney Moore led all scorers with 18 points.
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Western Carolina came to life in the fourth quarter outscoring the Buccaneers 13-3 over the first eight minutes. The Catamounts cut the ETSU lead to one, 47-46 with 3:07 remaining off a bucket by Andrea Martin Ruiz
  • In the final three minutes, ETSU pulled away outscoring the Catamounts 12-5. 
  • In the final three minutes, ETSU was 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. 
  • The Catamounts were 6-of-12 from the free-throw line.
  • Western Carolina hit five three-pointers in the game. 
  • Sophomore Joi Reid had five steals in the game.

Western Carolina plays its final home SoCon home game of the season Saturday hosting Chattanooga at 5 p.m. The game is the second game of a doubleheader with men's basketball who hosts Mercer at 2 p.m. It will be senior day for the Catamounts as Nadia Marshall, Andrea Martin Ruiz and Grace Yocum will be honored.
