Catamounts Fall to Towson in Final Day of Winthrop Kick-Off

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Western Carolina softball fell to Towson 2-1 on the final day of the Winthrop Kick-Off Sunday at Terry Field. 
 
Turning Point 
Towson scored two unanswered runs after being down 1-0. The Tigers tied the game in the fifth and hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to clinch the game. 
 
How it Happened 
  • In the top of the second, Samantha Reele hit a solo home run to give the Catamounts the early 1-0 lead. 
  • Towson tied the game in the bottom of the fifth off a sacrifice fly RBI.
  • Nicole Kidwiler's solo home run in the bottom of the sixth clinched the game for Towson.
  • The Catamounts attempted a rally in the top of the seventh. With one out, pinch hitter Bailey Treadway hit a single up the middle. She moved to second on a wild pitch but was stranded at second.
 
 Inside the Box Score 
  • Catamount pitcher Jayme Eilers tossed a complete game and takes the loss falling to 4-2 on the year. She gave up two runs on six hits and struck out seven. 
  • Western Carolina has four hits in the game.
  • Towson committed two errors. 
  
News & Notes 
  • Western Carolina went 3-2 at the Winthrop Kick-Off Tournament. WCU's two losses in the tournament were by one run. 
  • As a team, the Catamounts have hit four home runs over the last three games. 
  • Junior Brooklyn Brewington is 9-for-9 in stolen bases on the season. That mark already ties her for seventh in the WCU record books for stolen bases in a season. The school record is 16.
  • Eilers 248 career strikeouts rank seventh in the WCU record books for strikeouts in a career. She needs 24 to move into sixth place. 
  • At the Winthrop tournament, Reele had a .357 batting average with five hits, two home runs, and three RBI.
  • Pitchers Eilers and Savannah Rice each went 1-1 in the Winthrop Tournament. Eilers had 21 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched.
