CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis shut out Tusculum, 7-0, Friday at the Catamount Tennis Complex.

TURNING POINT:
Western Carolina won two of three doubles and clinched the match by sweeping the six singles matches. Â Â

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Miray Konar and Kata Foldeak got the first win in doubles dispatching their opponent quickly, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
- Jacy Smith and Julia Pezzuco won at No. 1 doubles in a marathon match that saw the duo seal the match on a strong return by Pezzuco.
- Antonella Benavides completed a great comeback at No. 4 singles dropping the first set 6-3 before roaring back to take the second set 6-1 and winning the tiebreaker 10-4.

NOTES:
- Pezzuco played her first singles match, against Tusculum, since Feb. 23, 2020, against South Carolina State. She earned her first singles win since defeating her opponent against Wofford on April 13, 2019.
- The doubles tandem of Konar and Foldeak are 2-0 at the infancy of the season.
- Benavides is 2-0 in singles to start the season.
