CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis picked up a 5-2 win over visiting Southeast Missouri on Sunday at the Catamount Tennis Complex.
TURNING POINT:
The Catamounts took the early 1-0 lead with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to open the match. WCU went on to clinch the match with wins at No. 6, No. 2 and No. 4 singles.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Catamounts took the early lead with wins by Kata Foldeak and Miray Konar (6-3) at No. 2 doubles and Luzia Obermeier and Jordyn King (6-0) at No. 3 doubles to secure the point.
- Hoda Habib blazed through her match at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0 to put the Catamounts up 2-0.
- SEMO cut the Catamount lead to one, 2-1, with a win at No. 3 singles as freshman Luzia Obermeier fell 6-4, 6-2.
- Western Carolina pulled ahead with Konar's 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles and King clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles.
- SEMO won at No. 5 singles earning two points in the match.
- Folkeak closed out the match earning the Catamounts' fifth point of the contest with a win at No. 1 singles in three sets, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.
NOTES:
- Western Carolina has won four of its last five matches and is 4-1 at home this season.
- Foldeak won her team-leading seventh singles match. She also paces the team in doubles wins with eight.
- Freshman Angela Perez saw her first action as a Catamount this spring teaming up with Julia Pezzuco at No. 1 doubles.
