  • A catamount error, with two outs in the third, set up a two-run home run for the Mountaineers.
  • Western Carolina's second error of the game set up an RBI single for the Mountaineers' fourth run.
  • Myra Twitty's lead-off home run, over the Appalachian State's scoreboard, in centerfield, in the top of the fifth helped the Catamounts avoid the shutout.
  • Appalachian State tacked on a fifth run on an RBI double
  • Western Carolina got bases loaded in the top of the sixth and pushed one run across. With one out, Brooklynn Brewington singled and moved to third on a Bailey Huneycutt single to right field. Samantha Reele drew a walk to load the bases and Brewington scored on a Mountaineer error.

Turning Point
With the game tied 2-2, in the top of the eighth inning, Huneycutt hit a three-run home run to give the Catamounts the lead. WCU's defense held the Mountaineers at bay in the bottom of the frame to secure the win.

How it Happened
  • Western Carolina scored two runs in the top of the third to take the early lead all with two outs. Riley Lambert reached on a Mountaineer error and Brooklynn Brewington reached first on a fielder's choice that saw Lambert go to second. Natalie Henry's RBI single scored Lambert and Brewington scored on an RBI single to right field from Huneycutt.
  • Appalachian State cut the Catamounts' lead to one with a run in the bottom of the third and tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, with the score tied 2-2, Western Carolina forced extra innings by getting a pair of groundouts to strand an Appalachian player on first.
  • The Catamounts secured the win with three runs in the top of the eighth. Savannah Rice led off with a single who was replaced by pinch-runner Claudia Riddle. With one out, Brooklynn Brewington legged out a single to place runners on first and second. With two outs, Huneycutt stared down two strikes and stepped up with a three-run home run over the right-centerfield wall.
  • Appalachian State's rally attempt in the bottom of the eighth was anemic at best. With one out, the Mountaineers singled and got a runner at second on a wild pitch. Two routine groundouts ended the Mountaineers' comeback attempt.
