CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina track & field combined to record a pair of top-five and eight top-10 finishes on Friday as the Catamounts competed in both the Raleigh Relays hosted by N.C. State and the Don McGarey Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State in Kennesaw, Ga.
Raleigh Relays Recap:
Javell Brown earned a seventh-place result in the men's triple jump with an outdoor personal best leap of 14.80 meters (48'6.75").
Javon Brown also recorded a new personal best in the same event, recording a leap of 14.28 meters (46'10.25"). He finished in 13
th place.
Makaila McIntyre finished ninth in the women's triple jump with a leap of 12.09 meters (39'8"). She also competed in the women's 100-meter dash, finishing in 41
st out of 70 competitors with a time of 12.28.
Omare McBride placed 19
th in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.60 meters (38'0.75").
Kate Mattison ran an outdoor personal best time of 17:16.05 in the women's 5,000-meter run during the morning session to earn a 29
th-place finish out of 63 competitors. Mattison's time is the second-fastest in program history.
In the women's discus,
Victoria Solheim finished in 36
th place thanks to a throw that measured 40.30 meters (132'3").
The meet continues on Saturday with the men's hammer throw at 9:45 a.m.
Don McGary Invitational Recap
Marissa Blakely finished in third place in the women's 200-meter dash with a new personal-best time of 24.77.
Brandon Harvey took third place in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.07 meters.
Thomas Martin earned a sixth-place finish in the men's javelin with a new personal best throw of 48.65 meters.
Chesley Kinney followed in seventh place, also recording a new personal best thanks to a throw that measured 44.66 meters.
Adam Hart finished in seventh place in the men's hammer throw with a season-best mark of 41.99 meters.
Elijah Stuart finished in 10
th place in the men's 1,500-run with a time of 4:10.07.
Saturday action begins at 11:30 a.m. with the women's pole vault. Track action starts at 12:30 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay.
