GREENSBORO, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis and North Carolina Central played the match until it was clinched allowing the Catamounts to blank the Eagles 4-0 Sunday at the James D. Younge Tennis Courts. 
 
TURNING POINT:
The Catamounts only had to win one doubles match, a victory at No. 1 doubles, as N.C. Central did not field a No. 3 doubles and WCU won via default to clinch the doubles point. WCU went on to pick up singles wins at No. 1, No. 3, and a win by default at No. 6 singles to take the match. 
 
 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Jacy Smith and Julia Pezzuco won the lone doubles match played to completion, at No. 1 doubles, clinching the doubles with a quick 6-0 victory.
  • Western Carolina went on to complete only two singles matches for the win as N.C. Central did not have a player at No. 6 singles and WCU won by default. 
  • Luzia Obermeier breezed through No. 3 singles winning 6-0, 6-4.
  • Kata Foldeak clinched the contest with a win at No. 1 singles. She won 7-5, 6-2.
  • Miray Konar was headed to the third set at No. 2 singles, winning set one 6-4 before dropping the second set 4-6, when the match was halted unfinished. 
  • Smith won the first set 7-6 and was down 2-1 before her match at No. 4 singles went unfinished. 
 
  NOTES:
  • Western Carolina had a successful weekend in Greensboro, N.C. going 2-0 over the last two days and enjoying a three-match winning streak. 
  • The Catamounts have won seven of its last eight contests. 
  • Smith won her 30th career match in singles and she moved into a tie for fifth place in the WCU record books. 
  • Foldeak and Obermeier each lead the team in singles wins with six. 
  • Obermeier has won her last three singles matches and five of her last six. 
  • The Catamounts shut out its second opponent on the season. 
 
UPCOMING:
Western Carolina returns home Tuesday to host Kennesaw State at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Catamount Tennis Complex.
