Catamounts Begin Five-Match Homestand Tuesday

WCU enjoying three-match winning streak

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis begins a five-match homestand Tuesday hosting 69th ranked Kennesaw State at 10 a.m. Four of the five is set to be played over the next six days.
 
The Catamounts will host a doubleheader Saturday facing Lees-McRae at 11 a.m. and Carson Newman at 3 p.m. WCU closes out the weekend Sunday welcoming Southeast Missouri State at 2 p.m.
 
NEWS & NOTES 
  • Western Carolina went 2-0 over the weekend with wins against UNCG and North Carolina Central. 
  • The Catamounts are on a three-match winning streak and have won six of its last seven contests. 
  • Western Carolina's 8-3 record is the best mark for the Catamounts, in the first 11 matches, since 2016 when that team was also 8-3. 
  • Kata Foldeak and Luzia Obermeier each lead the team in singles wins with six. 
  • Foldeak paces the Catamounts in doubles victories with seven. 
  • Senior Jacy Smith has 32 career wins in doubles play and ranks fourth in the WCU record books for wins in a Catamount career. She is chasing the Catamount record of 44 set by former Catamount, and teammate, Jordan Strickland. 
  • Kennesaw State enters the match Tuesday against Western Carolina 8-0. Seven of the Owls' wins have been on the road. 
  • WCU and Kennesaw State meet for the sixth time with the Owls' holding a slight 3-2 advantage. 
  • Western Carolina and Lees-McRae meet for just the second time in the two program's history. The two team's lone meeting occurred on April 14, 1989, with WCU winning 6-3. 
  • The Catamounts and Carson-Newman matchup for the sixth time. The first meeting was in 1982 and the last was in 1989. The last meeting, in 1989, was a win for Western Carolina, 5-4. 
  • Western Carolina's match with Southeast Missouri is the third between the two schools. The teams are tied 1-1 in the pair of meetings with WCU winning the last contest 5-4 on Mar. 20, 1997. 
  • The Catamounts meeting with SEMO is part of the Redhawk's trip through the state of North Carolina. After the match with Western Carolina, SEMO will face Montreat on Mar. 14 and Gardner-Webb on Mar. 17.
