Peacock Tied for 10th, WCU Tied for 9th at Wofford Invite

Final round is scheduled for Tuesday morning in Spartanburg

Spartanburg, S.C. – Freshman Jake Peacock rebounded 18 positions in the individual standings on Monday to lead Western Carolina into a two-way tie for ninth place at the Wofford Invitational. Peacock is tied with seven others in 10th place with a 36-hole score of 2-under par 142 at the par-72,
6,712-yard Country Club of Spartanburg.
 
With a two-round score of 581, WCU sits just two strokes out of the Top Five entering Tuesday's final 18 holes.
 
Carding seven birdies and a pair of eagles over Monday's 36 holes, Peacock was tied for 28th after the opening 18 holes after a first-round, 1-over par 73. The Milton, Ga., product eagled the par-5 first hole to start his second round before a pair of bogeys left him making the turn for home at even par. Peacock birdied four holes on the back nine and was poised for a 4-under round until a bogey on the par-4 18th.
 
Senior Tumi Kúld led the Catamounts in the opening round with a 1-under par 71 to sit in a tie for 12th after 18 holes, slipping 11 spots into a tie for 23rd entering Tuesday's final round. Kúld countered three bogeys with four birdies in the first round and opened the second round with his fifth birdie. However, a triple-bogey on the par-4 second moved him to 2-over and he made the turn for home at 4-over par. A birdie and an eagle to start his final nine holes of the day moved the Akureyri, Iceland, native back to 1-over par and he finished the round with his seventh birdie and a sixth bogey to shoot 73.
 
Rounding out WCU's scoring five on Monday was senior Louis Theys up six spots into a tie for 55th with a two-round score of 149 (76-73), with junior Magnus Pedersen and sophomore Presten Richardson tied for 65th overall at 150. Theys carded six birdies including four in the second round. Pedersen recorded five birdies and an eagle with Richardson also charting an eagle to accompany six birdies in the first two rounds.
 
Tied with tournament-host Wofford after the first round with matching scores of 6-under par 282, UNCW shot 13-under par 275 collectively as a team in the second round to take a 14-stroke lead over the two-way tie for second between Wofford and Appalachian State. The Seahawks have a two-round score of 557, ahead of the tie between the Terriers and Mountaineers at 571. Mercer sits in fourth place with a 36-hole score of 577 with Kennesaw State (579) rounding out the top five.
 
Patrick Sparks of UNCW holds a one-stroke lead over Mercer's Tobias Jonsson, 136-to-137, on the individual leader board.
 
The tournament's final round is scheduled for Tuesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. Paired with golfers from Elon and Francis Marion, WCU's golfers tee off on the first tee beginning at 8:09 a.m. Live scoring through GolfStat is available online.
