Men’s Golf Finishes 10th at Wofford Invitational

Jake Peacock led the Catamounts in a tie for 17th

Spartanburg, S.C. – Senior Louis Theys and sophomore Presten Richardson both carded final round scores of even-par 72 on Tuesday and freshman Jake Peacock finished tied for 17th to lead Western Carolina men's golf to a 10th-place showing at the Wofford Invitational, the squad's final regular-season tune-up before the Southern Conference Championship April 22-24.
 
WCU posted a team score of 11-over par 875 over the three-round, two-day tournament at the par-72, 6,712-yard Country Club of Spartanburg.
 
Five-over par at the turn for home, Peacock rallied with six pars and three birdies to cap his tournament with a 2-over par round of 74. The Milton, Ga., product finished with a team-best 12 birdies and carded two eagles over the 54-hole event.
 
Theys rallied 10 spots in the final standings on Tuesday to finish tied for 45th overall, countering four bogeys with four birdies for the even-par 72 for a tally of 221. His final score was matched by Richardson who climbed 13 positions into a tie for 52nd, a stroke back at 222. Richardson finished with 11 birdies including five on Tuesday while Theys had 10 birdies.
 
Rounding out WCU's scoring five was senior Tumi Kúld in a tie for 62nd at 225 and junior Magnus Pedersen in a tie for 65th with a score of 226. Kúld carded eight birdies and an eagle while Pedersen matched Peacock with a pair of eagles, adding seven birdies.
 
Guided by individual medalist Cedric Otten with 10-under par 206, tournament-host Wofford rallied to tie UNC Wilmington for the team title with matching scores of 15-under par 849. UNCW took home the trophy, though, by winning a playoff. Appalachian State finished third, four strokes off the pace with a team score of 853 with Radford (864) climbing five spots into fourth and USC Aiken – ranked sixth in the NCAA Division II GolfStat rankings – placing fifth with a score of 866.
 
Western Carolina now turns its attention to the 2022 Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship to be held Friday, April 22 through Sunday, April 24. The Catamounts look to build upon the runner-up finish in last year's event which returns to the Reynolds Lake Oconee Course in Greensboro, Ga.
