Track & Field Returns to Action at Aggie Invitational & Duke Invitational

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – After a weekend off from competition, the Western Carolina track & field teams resume the outdoor season this weekend as the Catamounts split up with student-athletes traveling to the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C., on Friday and Saturday and the Aggie Invitational in Greensboro, N.C., for a meet on Saturday.
 
Live results for both meets are available via links on CatamountSports.com. Portions of the Duke Invitational will be streamed on ACC Network Extra (paid subscription required).
 
The Duke Invitational begins on Thursday with multi-events competition. Friday's competition begins at 9:30 a.m. with the men's hammer throw and women's shot put, with running events starting at 6 p.m. with the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Saturday's field events begin at 9:30 a.m. with the women's discus with running events beginning at Noon with the men's 4x100-meter relay. Over 30 schools representing the NCAA Division I, Division II, and Division III levels as well as NAIA are entered in the meet.
 
Competition at the Aggie Invitational begins Saturday at 9 a.m. with the women's long jump, while track events commence at 11 a.m. with the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. The women's hammer throw and men's shot put are scheduled for 6 p.m. to conclude an action-packed day.
 
WCU competed in two meets during the final weekend of March, sending student-athletes to both NC State's Raleigh Relays and the Don McGarey Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State. At the Raleigh Relays, Makaila McIntyre finished in fifth place in the women's long jump and ninth in the women's triple jump while Javell Brown placed seventh in the men's triple jump. Charles Cooley led the Catamounts at the Don McGarey Invitational with a victory in the men's pole vault. For the weekend, the Catamounts accumulated one event win, eight top-five finishes, and 21 top-10 finishes.
 
WCU hosts the Catamount Classic next Friday and Saturday at the Catamount Athletic Complex in Cullowhee.
