CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Behind several strong field event performances, the Western Carolina track & field teams closed out a successful split weekend on Saturday with several Top Five and Top 10 finishes at the Aggie Invitational hosted by North Carolina A&T.
Adam Hart earned the first of two top-five finishes in field events with a runner-up showing in the men's hammer throw after a distance of 44.68 meters (146'7").
Riley Center finished in fourth place in the men's hammer throw with a new personal best distance of 43.02 meters (141'2").
Ryan Eldridge was sixth with a throw that measured 42.05 meters (137'11").
Hart also picked up a fourth-place finish in the men's shot put with a throw of 14.52 meters (47'7.75"). Eldridge was sixth thanks to a throw of 14.28 meters (46'10.25") with Center taking 10
th place with a distance of 13.74 meters. Hart concluded his meet with a seventh-place finish in the men's discus with a season-best throw of 43.51 meters (142'11").
In the men's triple jump,
Javell Brown collected a podium finish in third place with a leap of 14.50 meters (47'7"), followed by
Javon Brown in fourth place at 14.49 meters (47'6.5").
Brandon Harvey earned a fifth-place finish in the men's high jump after clearing a height of 1.95 meters (6'4.75").
Jalen Elwell recorded a new personal best time of 1:53.74 in the 800-meter run to finish in fourth place.
John Davis was sixth with a time of 1:54.43 followed by
Elijah Stuart in 10
th at 1:56.22.
Drew Zink paced a trio of WCU runners in the men's 1,500-meter run as he finished in seventh place with a 4:08.58.
Clay Summers followed in eighth at 4:09.32 with
Nicholas Kiser in 10
th after completing the race in a personal best 4:11.33.
Michael Harris led three Catamount student-athletes in the finals of the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 21.99 to finish in eighth place. Ronald Kent, Jr. followed in ninth place with a time of 22.00 with
Marcus Brown crossing the finish line in 10
th at 22.04. Harris also finished in eighth place in the men's 400-meter dash, completing the race in 48.52.
The quartet of Kent, Jr. Brown, Harris, and
David Miles finished eighth in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 42.10.
Makaila McIntyre finished in fourth place in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.58 meters (18'3.75").
Omare McBride earned a seventh-place finish with an outdoor personal best mark of 5.34 meters (17'6.25"). McBride also tied for eighth in the women's high jump as she cleared an outdoor personal best height of 1.55 meters (5'1").
Marissa Blakely finished ninth in the women's 200-meter dash finals with a time of 25.10.
At the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C., which also concluded on Saturday,
Victoria Solheim finished 21
st in the women's discus with a throw of 41.72 meters (136'10").
WCU is home next weekend hosting the Catamount Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
