CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Head Coach Chad Miller picked up his 100th win at the helm of the Western Carolina women's soccer program with the 3-0 shutout of Wofford Friday at the Catamount Athletic Complex. 
 
TURNING POINT:
  • The Catamounts scored a goal just over seven minutes into the match and added a pair in the second half.

  • Western Carolina wasted no time taking the early 1-0 lead scoring at the 7:40 mark. Burchfield took a rebound off a shot by Lloyd, in front of the box, who pinged to Alexis DeMarco and to Burchfield who pings off the crossbar and into the goal beyond the outstretched hands of the Terrier goalie. 
  • The Catamounts made it 2-0 at 66:18. Marcil scored from outside the box about 20-yards out finding the left corner and past the diving save attempt by Terrier goalie Caroline Doss. 
  • Lloyd put the exclamation on the match with the third Catamount goal at 88:28. Lloyd took a pass from Abbie Lainhart, and juked the Wofford goalie forcing her to come outside the pipes and scoring when the net was unattended. 
  • Western Carolina ended the match with 16 shots, six on goal.
  • Wofford had only four shots, one in the first and three in the second. 
 
News & Notes:
  • Reece earned her first start in goal as a Catamount. She has not allowed a goal in 135 minutes played. 
  • Western Carolina tied its season-high with three goals scored in a match. The Catamounts also scored three goals in the 3-1 win over UNC Asheville. 
  • Burchfield and Lloyd both lead the team with four goals scored. 
  • The Catamounts' goal at 7:40 ended a streak of 323 plus minutes without scoring a goal. 
  • The Catamounts recorded its fifth shutout of the season. 
  • WCU is now 17-7-3 against Wofford all time and has won eight straight and shut out the Terriers for the 12th time in the series. 
  • Western Carolina won its opening SoCon match of the season for the first time since defeating ETSU 2-1 in double overtime in 2019.
