CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's soccer dropped its Southern Conference match with Furman 2-0 Sunday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

TURNING POINT:
  • The Paladins scored 30 minutes into the first half and added an insurance goal in the second half off a penalty kick.
Individual Leaders:  Inside the Box Score
  • Thirty minutes into the match Furman found the back of the net after a strong defensive presence by both squads. Nieva Gaither passed the ball from the left side of the goal over to the right side to Hannah Farr who sent it in for the score.
  • Furman tacked on a second goal off a penalty kick. Gaither added a goal to her assist in the game when she sneaked it past Catamount goalie Eden Reece.
  • Milla Syska had a solid scoring chance for the Catamounts when her shot looked to be going in at the top of the woodwork but Paladin goalie Nora Sampson just got a finger on it to push it out.
  • The Catamounts earned a penalty kick in the 85th minute as Naya Marcil was chosen to take the shot. Furman goalkeeper Sampson made a beauty of the save stopping the ball from going in as it was headed to the right side of the goal.
  • Both teams were stingy with the other in shots. The Catamounts ended the match with nine shots while Furman had eight.

News & Notes:
  • Reece gave up her first goals of the season with the pair against Furman.
  • Western Carolina was shut out for the seventh time on the year.
