Three Catamounts Score in Double Figures in Loss to UNCG

Catamounts take six day break before back in action

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Junior Mya Love led the game with 18 points in Western Carolina women's basketball's 83-59 loss to UNCG Thursday on Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center.  
 
Turning Point:
UNCG scored the first 10 points of the game, holding Western Carolina to one point of the first eight-plus minutes. The Spartans outscored WCU 43-19 in the first two quarters of the game.
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Love had 18 points going 6-for-12 from the field, drained a three-pointer and was 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
  • Kyla Allison scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half.
  • Zanoria Cruz added 11 points for WCU and ripped down five rebounds.
  • Joi Reid ripped down 11 rebounds with nine of the 11 defensive boards.
  • Khalis Cain led UNCG with 15 points while Isys Grady notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
 Inside the Box Score
  • The Catamounts scored seven points in the first quarter.
  • Western Carolina had a strong second half outscoring UNCG 22 to 13 in the third quarter.
  • UNCG led by as much as 26 with 9:31 left in the third quarter but the Catamounts battled back cutting the Spartan lead to 13, 56-43, with 9:45 remaining in the fourth quarter. UNCG reeled off seven consecutive points to pull away.
  • UNCG shot 42.6 percent from the field while WCU was 31 percent from the field.
  • The Spartans just edged Western Carolina in rebounds 46 to 42. Thirty of UNCG's 46 boards were defensive.
  • UNCG connected on eight three pointers while WCU had only two. The Catamounts did not hit their first three-pointer in the game until Love drained a trey with 4:43 left in the fourth quarter.
  • The Spartans scored 16 points off the Catamounts' 14 turnovers.
  • UNCG went to the free throw line 31 times hitting 17. The Catamounts made 28 trips to the charity stripe hitting 21 (75 percent).

  • Allison has scored in double figures in the last nine contests and 15 times on the year.  
  • Reid's11 rebounds ties her season high and is the third-straight game she has ripped down double-figure rebounds.
  • Love has scored in double figures in three of the last four games.
