CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis opened the 2023 spring season with a 7-0 win over Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday at the Catamount Tennis Complex.
 
TURNING POINT:
The Catamounts swept all three doubles matches for the first point of the match and won all six singles matches.
 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
	- The Catamounts took an early 1-0 lead sweeping all three doubles matches. Australian twins Chloe Schwarz and her sister Madison won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, Isabella Sambola and Angela Perez picked up a 6-3 victory and No. 2 doubles while at No. 3 doubles Jade Groen and Andrea Redondo Gutierrez won 6-2.
- Five of the six singles matches were played in two sets.
- Leilany Ipunesso's match went three sets at No. 3 singles before she finished off the Bears' Lucy Whelan 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
- Angela Perez breezed through her match at No. 5 singles winning 6-1, 6-1.
  
NOTES:
	- The Catamounts have won their last seven meetings against Lenoir-Rhyne and hold an 11-2 record against the Bears. WCU is 7-0 at home against Lenoir-Rhyne.
- This is the third-straight year the Catamounts have won their opening match of the season.
 
UPCOMING:
Western Carolina will take six days off before traveling to Bowling Green, Ky. to take on Western Kentucky at noon Jan. 29.
