Catamounts Fall on the Road at Mercer

Love leads Catamounts with 17 points

MACON, Ga. – Western Carolina women's basketball fell at Mercer 76-40 Saturday in Hawkins Arena in Macon, Ga.  
 
Turning Point:
Western Carolina enjoyed a short-lived 16-15 lead, with 7-53 left in the second quarter, but a 17-2 run by Mercer built a 34-20 lead, outscoring WCU 22-11 – a mark the Catamounts could not overcome.
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Mya Love led the Catamounts with 17 points and just missed a double-double with seven rebounds. 
  • Kyla Allison added 14 points for the Catamounts.
  • Joi Reid pulled down a team-leading eight boards.
  • Jaron Dougherty led four Bears in double figures with 16.
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Western Carolina shot an anemic 23 percent from the field and was held to only two field goals in the first quarter. 
  • Mercer warmed up quickly from the field ending the game shooting a scorching 49 percent. 
  • Western Carolina hit only one three-pointer in the game (1-of-8).
  • Love and Allison scored 31 of the Catamounts' 40 points.
  • The Catamounts were held to single-digit scoring in the first (9) and fourth (8) quarters. 
  • Mercer just edged the Catamounts in rebounding ripping down 42 to WCU's 38.
  • The Bears got 30 points off WCU's 15 turnovers.
  • Mercer was 22-of-27 from the free throw line while WCU was 11-of-17.
 
News & Notes
  • Love has now scored in double figures in back-to-back games and the ninth time this season.
  • Allison has now scored in double figures in six-straight games and eight of the last nine games. She leads the team with 11 double-figure scoring performances on the year.
  • Mercer's win over Western Carolina halted a four-game losing streak for the Bears.
  • Western Carolina is now on a two-game losing streak and has lost three of its last five games.
  • The Catamounts have scored under 40 points in the first two conference games of the season.
  • The Catamounts have now lost eight-consecutive to Mercer and are 0-11 on the Bears' home court.
