Strong Singles Showing Caps UNCG Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Western Carolina tennis continued its strong fall performances on Sunday taking nine of its 11 singles matches that the Catamounts contested as part of the final day of the UNCG Invite.

WCU was led on Sunday by Isabella Sambola and Jade Groen as both earned a pair of straight-set victories over players from Longwood and Hampton.

Over the first two tournaments of the fall, Sambola and Groen have both tallied six singles wins to lead the way for the Catamounts. As a team, Western Carolina is 26-9 in singles action throughout the two fall tournaments.

Angela Perez added a straight set win on Sunday against Longwood while both Chloe Schwarz and Madison Schwarz each earned wins in two sets against Hampton. Dasha Osadova earned a win in straight sets after needing a 7-2 score in a tiebreak against N.C. A&T.

Leilany Ipunesso added a three-set win against the Pirates to cap off the 9-2 day in singles for the Catamounts.

WCU will close out the fall slate beginning on Thursday October 19th with the ITA Carolina Regionals hosted by the University of North Carolina.
