Groen Advances to Round of 16 at Regionals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Sophomore Jade Groen opened her singles portion of the ITA Carolina Regionals on Friday morning with a straight set victory to advance to the Round of 16 in the tournament.

Groen began her day against Sibel Tanik from Elon and after falling down 4-1 in the opening set won six of the final seven points to claim the first set 7-5. She continued her momentum with 6-4 set two win to claim the match in straight sets and advance in the tournament.

The Catamounts doubles pairs of Isabella Sambola/Leilany Ipunesso and Angela Perez/Jade Groen both went up against ACC foes and battled to the end but came up short against doubles teams from Wake Forest and N.C. State on Friday afternoon.

Groen is set to continue her singles portion of the Regionals on Saturday with a matchup against Abigail Rencheli from N.C. State with the start time of that match still to be determined.
