Cullowhee, N.C. – Returning to action after an eight-day layover since it outlasted previously unbeaten McNeese State 76-74 to keep its unblemished seasonal record, Western Carolina men's basketball plays the backend of a two-game homestand on Sunday afternoon as it welcomes first-time opponent North Alabama to Ingles Court at the Ramsey Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Western Carolina (4-0) has a pair of home victories over Dalton State and McNeese State while tallying a pair of impressive road wins at Notre Dame and Conference-USA preseason co-favorite, Middle Tennessee. The Catamounts are off to their best start to a season since 1981-82 when WCU was 5-0 out of the gates.
Vonterius Woolbright leads three Catamounts in double figures, pacing WCU in a trio of statistical categories including scoring (19.0 ppg), rebounding (9.5 rpg), and assists (22). He has reached double-digits in all four games, twice scoring 20 or more with a pair of double-doubles. Woolbright is flanked by sophomore
DJ Campbell, second in both scoring (13.8 ppg) and rebounding (6.8 rpg) and likewise reaching double-figures four times, with
Russell Jones Jr. scoring at a 13.5 point per game clip.
North Alabama (3-2) comes to Cullowhee after dropping a 105-103 double-overtime affair at UT Martin in the mid-week ahead on Wednesday (Nov. 22) afternoon. The Lions had possession of the basketball at the end of regulation and in both overtime sessions but were unable to win it or find the equalizer in the second OT period in suffering its second road loss of the year.
UNA has two players averaging double-digit scoring on the year with two others averaging over eight and a half points per contest. Senior guard KJ Johnson paces the Lions with an 18.4 point per game scoring average, reaching double-digits in all five games this season including back-to-back 20-point performances. Guard Jacari Lane, the lone preseason All-ASUN selection, is second on the squad with an 11.0 point per game average. Forward Tim Smith Jr. is averaging 9.8 points per game while Damain Forest averages 8.6 points and a team-best 8.4 rebounds.
The Lions were picked seventh in both the coaches and media poll in the 12-team ASUN conference after finishing 18-15 last season. Like WCU, UNA advanced to the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) in Daytona Beach, Fla., falling in the first round
Following Sunday's home date, the Catamounts play three straight nonconference road games, traveling to Tennessee Tech on Tuesday (Nov. 28), Gardner-Webb (Dec. 2), and High Point (Dec. 5). The Catamounts next play at home in doubleheader action on Saturday, Dec. 9, against mountain-rival UNC Asheville. The men play the Bulldogs at 4 p.m., with the women playing the nightcap against UNCA. Announced on Friday, WCU will honor the No. 32 of former Catamount and WCU Athletics Hall of Famer Kevin Martin ahead of the men's game on Dec. 9.
