Catamounts Open Indoor Season at Clemson on Friday

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina indoor track & field begins its season on Friday as the Catamounts venture to Clemson, S.C., for the Clemson Opener inside the on-campus Clemson Indoor Complex.

WCU will send members of both its jumps and throws in the field events and will participate in the majority of the track events on Friday. Live results will be available via a link on CatamountSports.com.

A combined 49 Catamounts are slated to compete in Friday's season-opening meet with 18 freshmen slated to make their WCU debuts. Forty-two of Western Carolina's student-athletes are set to compete in multiple events throughout Friday's season opener at Clemson.

The meet begins Friday at 10 a.m. with the men's high jump and shot put competitions. The track events begin at 12:15 p.m. with the women's 600-meter, running throughout the afternoon and early evening.

In addition to the Catamounts and host Clemson, competitors include student-athletes from South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, UNCW, Howard, FAMU, N.C. A&T, Life, St. Augustine's, Southeastern, Anderson, JCSU, Fayetteville State and Southern Wesleyan.

WCU enters the indoor portion of its schedule looking to build on a runner-up finish by the men and a fourth-place showing by the women in last season's Southern Conference Championship meet.

Following Friday's meet, the Catamounts are off until January 12-13, 2024 when they head back to the Palmetto State for the Clemson Invite, again hosted by the Tigers.
