LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Western Carolina indoor track & field teams saw several strong performances in preliminaries heats as well as field events on Friday at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational hosted by Liberty.
Competing the in 60-meter dash prelims,
Dohnavon Hunt ran the fastest time of 25 competitors at 6.91 and was joined in the semifinals by teammate Skyler Woodard with a time of 6.99. Hunt later punched his ticket into Saturday's finals with a sixth-place result in the semifinals with a personal best time of 6.89.
Kaleb Ambrose qualified for the semifinals in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.51, which represented the eighth-fastest preliminary time.
John Davis finished the men's 800-meter run with a new personal best time of 1:54.52.
In the women's pole vault,
Sydney Gallant cleared a personal best height of 3.50 meters (11'5.75") to finish in seventh place.
On the track,
Alesea Caldwell ran a personal best 18:21.93 in the women's 5,000-meter run as she finished in 12
th place.
Shaneil Lysight and
Dami Shodeinde qualified for the women's 60-meter hurdle semifinals with times of 8.93 and 9.00.
Kate Mattison recorded a new personal best time of 9:52.01 in the women's 3,000-meter run.
The meet continues on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the women's high jump, women's shot put, women's triple jump, and men's pole vault.
