ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Jade Groen won her doubles match and No. 4 singles contest in Western Carolina women's tennis' 5-2 loss against UNC Asheville Sunday at the Asheville Racquet Club.
 
TURNING POINT:
UNCA won two of three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead and went on to pick up victors at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles to secure the match.
 
 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • UNCA won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the doubles point.
  • The Catamounts avoided a doubles sweep with Andrea Redondo and Jade Groen's 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
  • Groen won in straight sets at No. 4 singles 7-6, 6-0.
  • Angela Perez won the first set 6-4 at No. 6 singles and took the match when her Bulldog opponent withdrew.
  NOTES:
  • Groen improves to 3-1 in singles play all at No. 4 singles.
 
 UPCOMING:
Western Carolina returns home for a three-match home stand beginning Friday, Feb. 17. The Catamounts will host Queens University of Charlotte and Young Harris in a doubleheader beginning at noon. WCU will turn around the next day, on Saturday, to welcome Georgia State at 11 a.m. all at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
