Catamounts Pick Up 5-2 Win Over Young Harris

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis returned home Friday to earn a 5-2 victory over Young Harris at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
 
TURNING POINT:
Western Carolina swept doubles to go up 1-0. Young Harris tied the match with a win at No. 4 singles, but the Catamounts went on to take the next four singles matches to seal the victory.
 
 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Catamounts breezed through doubles including 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
  • Leilany Ipunesso and Angela Perez teamed up at No. 2 doubles to win 6-0.
  • Jade Groen and Andrea Redondo also blanked their Young Harris opponents 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.
  • Madison Schwarz quickly put the Catamounts back on top when she picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.
  • Ipunesso battled back at No. 2 singles, after dropping the first set, 6-4, to win the second set 6-3. She would lose the tiebreaker 12-10.
  • Young Harris also picked up wins at No. 6 singles. 
 
 NOTES:
  • Groen improves to 4-1 in singles play. She got her first win at No. 3 singles against Young Harris.
  • The Catamounts are now 2-0 at home to start the season.
  • Chloe Schwarz improves to 3-0 in singles.
