Laredo, Texas – Western Carolina men's golf slid into a tie for 14th on Tuesday as play concluded at the spring-opening Border Olympics, hosted by the Univ. of Houston at the par-72, 7,204-yard Laredo Country Club. The Catamounts finished with a final team round of 306 for a 54-hole score of 910, tied with Miami (Ohio).
Fifth-year senior
Adam Hooker and redshirt junior
Pablo Hernandez paced the Catamount scoring five in a tie for 52nd overall with a tally of 228. Hernandez carded a team-best 10 birdies, one ahead of Hooker with nine including four over the final 18 holes.
Senior
Magnus Pedersen slipped into a tie for 62nd with a score of 230. Rounding out the WCU scoring five were fifth-year senior
Louis Theys, up four spots over the final round into a tie for 73rd at 234 and Tuesday's biggest gainer in redshirt freshman
Josh Lendach, up nine spots to come home in a tie for 77th. Pedersen and Lendach tied with a team-best 33 pars, one ahead of Theys with 32.
Second-round leader and No. 30 Baylor cruised to the team championship by 15 strokes over second place and tournament host Houston, 856-to-871. Michigan climbed four spots into third with a score of 879, with ULM (880) and Coastal Carolina (881) rounding out the top five teams.
Houston's Santiago De La Fuente advanced one spot over Baylor's Johnny Keefer to claim individual medalist honors by a stroke. De La Fuente posted a three-round score of 4-under par 212 while Keefer was 3-under at 213.
Western Carolina returns to action Feb. 19-21 at the Mickey Mouse Intercollegiate, hosted by Bellarmine at Disney's Palm Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The three-round, 54-hole event will be contested over three days with 18 holes per round. Live scoring through GolfStat is available through
