ATLANTA, Ga. – Western Carolina closed out the final day of the Panther Invitational, hosted by Georgia State, with a 7-1 loss to Northern Iowa at Bob Heck Stadium.

Northern Iowa scored seven unanswered runs after Western Carolina went up 1-0 to open the game.

How it HappenedÂ
- Western Carolina took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Senior Brooklynn Brewington led off the inning with a single and came around to score thanks to a Northern Iowa error.Â
- After Western Carolina sat the Panthers down in order in the first inning, Northern Iowa plated three runs in the bottom of the second.
- Northern Iowa added four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Â

Inside the Box ScoreÂ
- Catamount pitcher Makenzie Martin earned her first start of the season. She tossed four innings giving up five runs on six hits and striking out four. Martin takes the loss and falls to 0-1 on the year.
- Senior hurler Jayme Eilers came into the game in relief of Martin in the bottom of the fifth. She tossed two innings giving up two runs on two hits and striking out three.
- Western Carolina had four hits in the game with Morgan Maddaluna recording two of the four.Â
- The Catamounts stranded five baserunners.Â
