COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Western Carolina track & field teams achieved several personal bests along with four top-five finishes and six top-10 finishes Friday on the first day of the South Carolina Invitational at the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex.
Sydney Gallant tied her personal best in the pole vault, finishing as the runner-up after clearing a height of 3.40 meters (11'1.75").
Jennifer Wagner finished fifth in the same event, clearing a height of 3.10 meters (10'2").
In the women's 3,000-meter run,
Caroline Hilliard earned a third-place result with a time of 10:14.76.
Derica Currie earned a seventh-place result in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.09 meters (36'4.75").
Toria Roundtree finished ninth in the women's weight throw with a new personal best mark of 14.30 meters (46'11").
Shaneil Lysight ran the fourth-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdle qualifying round, crossing the finish line with a time of 9.06. Lysight finished 12
th in the event thanks to a personal best time of 8.98.
Dami Shodeinde placed 14
th with a time of 9.07.
Competing in the invite division of the women's 400-meter dash,
Nytrinitey Jenkins recorded an indoor personal best time of 57.52.
On the men's side,
Noah Straley placed third in the men's long jump with a new personal best leap of 7.29 meters (23'11").
Riley Center finished 11
th in the men's shot put with a throw of 13.34 meters (43'9.25").
The meet continues Saturday with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and track events starting an hour later.
