CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Western Carolina women's tennis team closes out the 2023 regular season as the Catamounts welcome both Samford and Chattanooga to the Catamount Athletics Complex for a pair of weekend matches. WCU is slated to battle Samford on Saturday at 1 p.m. before facing the Mocs at 1 p.m. on Sunday in a match-up that was moved from Friday morning.

WCU is 13-8 overall and 1-4 in Southern Conference matches after a 7-0 setback at home against league-leading ETSU on Tuesday. The doubles pairing of
Jade Groen and
Dasha Osadova picked up a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles. Playing at No. 1 singles,
Isabella Sambola dropped a hard-fought 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) contest against reigning SoCon Athlete of the Month Laylo Bakhodirova in one of the tighter match-ups. Strong at the start of the second set, Sambolla twice led by three before Bakhodirova rallied back.
Samford is 11-6 overall and 3-2 in SoCon play entering a road match against UNCG on Friday morning before traveling to Cullowhee. The Bulldogs are led by Alexis Lopez's 10 singles wins at the top court. Lindsay Song has nine singles wins, primarily at the fourth position. In doubles play, the Bulldogs have used five different combinations with no pairing having won more than eight matches.
Chattanooga is 13-7 overall and 2-4 in league play after a 7-0 setback at ETSU last Saturday. The Mocs have four players with double digit singles wins including Rozalie Dohnalova with a team-best 13 primarily playing at No. 6 singles. In doubles play, the pairing of Caroline Gibbens and Jessie Young is 12-6 playing at No. 1 doubles.
The Catamounts compete for a Southern Conference title beginning on Thursday, April 20, in Chattanooga, Tenn.
