ATLANTA, Ga. – The Western Carolina track & field teams scored a top-five and seven top-10 finishes on Saturday in the final day of the Georgia Tech Invitational held at George C. Griffin Track.
"Overall, we were able to turn-in a few personal records this weekend," said WCU head coach
Jesse Norman. "Mostly, I felt that we were beat up from a hard week of training. We'll get dialed in over the next couple of weeks and will be ready for good performances at the Southern Conference Championships."
In the men's triple jump,
Javon Brown finished in fifth place with a top leap of 14.60 meters (47'10.75"). His brother
Javell Brown followed in sixth place with a mark of 14.47 meters (47'5.75").
Jonathan Lehe finished in ninth place in the men's pole vault as he cleared a new personal best height of 4.55 meters (14'11").
On the track,
John Davis finished in seventh place in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.01, while the men's 4x400-meter relay team of
Noah Straley,
Elias Barton, Davis, and
Teddy Ayden closed out the meet with a 10
th-place result. The quartet completed the race with a time of 3:18.68.
On the women's side,
Derica Currie scored a sixth-place finish in the women's triple jump with a new personal best mark of 11.67 meters (38'3.5").
Imani Boyd placed 10
th in the women's 400-meter hurdles in a new personal best time of 1:03.14.
The Catamounts are off next weekend before hosting the 2023 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 8-9 at the Catamount Athletic Complex. Day two of the conference-champion crowning meet will be broadcast on ESPN+ (
