BOONE, N.C. – Freshman
Jackson Livingston earned his second event victory of the season on Friday in the javelin to highlight abridged action at the Appalachian State Open. The meet schedule was adjusted to include only two throwing events due to forecasted thunderstorms with all of the running events as well as several field events rescheduled for Saturday.
Livingston took the win with a new personal best throw of 56.87 meters (186'7"), eclipsing his previous best throw of 56.43 meters (185'2") at the season-opening Weems Baskin Invitational. His throw now ranks as the fifth-best in program history and currently ranks as the third-best in the Southern Conference rankings this season. Livingston also won the javelin event at the Catamount Classic two weeks ago.
WCU's
Dominick Dale finished as the runner-up in the men's javelin with a personal best throw of 47.58 meters (156'1").
In the men's hammer throw,
Riley Center earned a fourth-place finish with a top throw of 47.07 meters (154'5"). Dale picked up his second top-five result of the day, placing fifth with a personal best mark of 46.16 meters (151'5").
Jacob Thomas threw a personal best distance of 44.70 meters (146'8") to finish in sixth place.
Competing in the women's hammer throw,
Toria Roundtree placed seventh thanks to her throw of 36.98 meters (121'4").
The meet continues on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. WCU has student-athletes entered in the men's and women's discus, men's and women's pole vault, men's and women's shot put, and men's 110-meter hurdles. Live results for the meet are available via a link on catamountsports.com.
