Volleyball Has Strong Showing in Home Exhibition on Saturday Night

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Western Carolina volleyball team put forth a strong showing against USC Upstate on Saturday night on Ingles Court at the Ramsey Center.

In the lone exhibition of the preseason, all 17 players on the WCU roster saw action in a match that spanned five sets with five freshmen playing for the first time at the collegiate level.

"I was pleased with our performance tonight," commented head coach Karen Glover. "Tonight was a good opportunity to try out a lot of different lineups and I was pleased with how the players adjusted to different personnel on the court throughout the match."

Western Carolina begins its 2023 regular season on Aug. 25 against Florida State as part of the Classic City Clash, hosted by the University of Georgia in Athens. The Catamounts are set to battle host Georgia and UConn on Saturday, Aug. 26 to close out the opening weekend. The UGA match will be broadcast on the SEC Network+ (paid subscription required) and through the Watch ESPN app.

WCU head coach Karen Glover is scheduled to take part in a special 2023 Fall Sports Preview Facebook LIVE event, presented by Stanberry Insurance, on Monday (Aug. 21) beginning at 6 p.m. The head coaches of each of WCU's sports that hold championship seasons in the fall – cross country, football, soccer, and volleyball – will be on hand for this preview show.
