Catamount Women’s Golf Eighth After 18 Holes in Japan

Kitahiroshima, Japan – Opening play in the program's first international competition this week, the Western Carolina women's golf team sat eighth among the 13-team field after 18 holes at the Pan Pacific Collegiate Golf Super League.
 
Redshirt junior Kayleigh Baker and junior Kaitlyn Wingnean both carded opening-round scores of 4-over par 76, with the remainder of WCU's scoring five a stroke in arrears at 77. Junior Elizabeth Lohbauer was joined by fifth-year senior Victoria Ladd and sophomore Brie Mapanao with the 5-over par scores. Ladd carded the team's best front-nine score, turning to the back after shooting 36 over the opening nine holes. Lohbauer and Mapanao carded the best back-nine scores at 38
 
WCU is among two American squads in the women's tournament field, joined by Hawaii Pacific University which is located in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
   
Two golfers – Karin Sakai of Chubu Gakuin University and Suzu Shimada of Tohoku Fukushi University, both of which are located in Japan, posted the best scores of the round at 2-under par 70. Three others recorded first-round scores of 1-under par 71 to open tournament play.
 
Limited additional tournament information is available from the course. CatamountSports.com will be updated as soon as possible when results from the international tournament are passed along as the course is 13 hours ahead of the Eastern Time zone.
