Triple Jump Pair Leads Catamounts at Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Western Carolina track and field teams closed out their 2024 opening meet weekend on Saturday led by Javon and Javell Brown both finishing in the top five of the men's triple jump at the Clemson Invitational.

Javon Brown and Javell Brown both had solid outings in the men's triple jump as Javon posted a mark of 15.00 meters, followed closely behind by his brother Javell at 14.98 meters. The brothers finished fourth and fifth respectively as the pair both had season bests for the Catamounts.

In the shot put on Saturday, Austin Cline led the way for WCU finishing in seventh with a 14.51m throw. Riley Center joined the top 10 at 13.68m finishing in ninth place.

On the women's field event side, Toria Roundtree led WCU in the shot put with a fourth-place finish recording a personal best of 11.57 meters. Haille Jackson-Morgan also finished with a personal best of 9.97 meters in eighth place with Landrey Pike finishing in ninth at 9.53 meters.

Closing out the field events on Saturday, Adam Ledford finished sixth in the high jump at 1.90 meters for a personal best as Cameron Pompey tied his season-best in seventh at 1.85 meters.

The Catamounts make their first of four straight trips to Virginia beginning on Thursday, Jan. 18, at the Brant Tolsma Invitational hosted by Liberty in Lynchburg, Va. WCU returns to Virginia for the VMI Winter Relays (Feb. 2-3) and again to Liberty for the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational (Feb. 9-10). The four straight trips to Virginia close out with the SoCon Indoor Championships beginning on February 24, hosted by the Keydets on post in Lexington.
