LYNCHBURG, VA. -- Led by standout performances by the men's 4x400m team and junior John Davis in the 1,000m, the Western Carolina track and field teams capped off a strong showing at the Brant Tolsma Invitational with 9 top-ten finishes on the final day of competition.
The highlight of the meet belongs to the men's 4x400m team consisting of David Miles, Teddy Ayden, Quinton Godfrey, and Elias Barton. The Catamount quartet set a new season-best mark in the event of 3:19.01 on the way to a first-place finish in the event. The time surpassed their previous season best by a full four seconds while just edging out SoCon foe Wofford's time of 3:21.37.
In addition, all five Catamounts competing in the men's 1,000m run claimed top ten finishes with John Davis leading the purple pack. Davis took a second-place finish in the event and was one of two athletes to break the meet record in the event. Davis's time of 2:33.15 is also a new personal best in the 1K.
The top finishes in the women's events belong to the 4x400m team and pole vaulter Jennifer Wagner. The relay team of Mikayla Turner, Imani Boyd, Cymoria Thomas, and Kyndal Saunders earned a seventh-place placement thanks to a time of 4:02.19 while Wagner took an eight-place finish - her third straight top-ten performance - in the pole vault after clearing a height of 3.41m on her first attempt.
In total, the Western Carolina track and field teams claimed 17 top-ten finishes across their two days of action which includes event wins in the men's long jump and 4x400m relay.
The Catamounts will be back in action in February as they take on the VMI Winter Relays February 2-3.
