Vlkovic Garners AVCA Scholarship Honors

Lexington, Ky. – Western Carolina volleyball assistant coach Ava Vlkovic was recently honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) with the Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship.

Vlkovic was selected as one of 18 recipients for the Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship that provides the opportunity for up-and-coming volleyball coaches to attend their first AVCA Convention with the scholarship money used to pay for convention registration. Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to interact with successful coaches from all levels and explore the limitless networking and education opportunities available at the convention.

"I am so excited for Ava! This is a tremendous opportunity for her, and I know she will take full advantage of it.," said WCU head volleyball coach Karen Glover. "She is eager to learn and grow as a coach. I believe she  will greatly benefit from attending convention."

To be eligible for the Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship, applicants must be active AVCA members who are attending their first AVCA Convention. Now in its 16th year, a selection committee reviews the applications and makes their decision based on academics, contributions to the sport of volleyball on and off the court, a professional letter of recommendation, and a personal written submission outlining their desire to attend the AVCA Convention and their aspirations in coaching.

"I am deeply grateful to have received the Coaches 4 Coaches scholarship. This opportunity will not only allow me to advance my knowledge and skills, but it will also open doors to connect with others in the field. I'm excited to learn, grow, and build meaningful relationships at convention, that will help shape my professional journey and allow me to make a positive impact as a coach," commented assistant coach Ava Vlkovic.

Vlkovic is in her first season with the Catamounts and is pursuing a masters degree in sports management. She ended her collegiate career as a three-year letterwinner at Georgia State where she graduated magma cum laude with a bachelor's degree in public policy with a concentration in nonprofit management from Georgia State in May 2024.

Western Carolina volleyball closes its extended homestand on Wednesday (Nov. 6) with a midday match against Mercer beginning at Noon, making up a match that was postponed due to Hurricane Helene back in September. The match with the Bears will be shown on ESPN+ (paid subscription required), and live stats will be available on CatamountSports.com.
