Men’s Golf Heads to Myrtle Beach for Hackler Championship

Three-day, 54-hole tournament slated for Dunes Golf & Beach Club

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Western Carolina men's golf returns to action on Monday morning among a strong field at Coastal Carolina's 2024 General James Hackler Championship. The three-day, 54-hole event is scheduled for March 18-20 at the par-72, 7,233-yard Dunes Golf & Beach Club.

In addition to the host Chanticleers and the Catamounts, the 14-team field includes fellow Southern Conference foes Chattanooga, ETSU, and Furman. Rounding out the field are golfers from Charleston Southern, College of Charleston, Kent State, Liberty, Little Rock, Louisville, North Florida, San Francisco, and UNCW.

Paired with golfers from Charleston Southern and five individuals including three from Coastal Carolina, one from Charleston, and one from Liberty, WCU's scoring five hits the course on the back nine on Monday beginning at 8:57 a.m.

Live scoring for each round is available through GolfStat with a link online at CatamountSports.com.

Fifth-year senior Magnus Pedersen leads the Catamount scoring five into this week's tournament playing as the No. 1 seed. Pedersen enters the week ranked fourth in the SoCon individual rankings with a seasonal scoring average of 70.35 over 20 rounds this year. He's flanked by redshirt senior Pablo Hernandez (71.85) and sophomore transfer Ivan Ninkovic (71.65), 17th and 14th, respectively, in the conference seasonal ledgers. Hernandez has a pair of Top 10 finishes including a ninth-place tie most recently at the weather-shortened Peoples Golf Championship at Sea Palms Resort.

Rounding out the Catamount lineup is King City, Ontario, product junior Kiefer Bulau at No. 4 and Raleigh product Josh Lendach as the No. 5. Bulau plays in his third event of the season – first as a part of WCU's scoring five after finishing tied with Hernandez with a career-best finish in a ninth-place tie at 2-under par 140. Lendach competes in his fifth event of the year.

Following this week's Hackler Championship, WCU is slated for match play at the Sweetens Cove Intercollegiate, hosted by Miami (Ohio) in Pittsburg, Tenn., March 25-26.
