Cullowhee, N.C. – Corbin Huntley has been named the head cheerleading coach at Western Carolina University, it was announced this week. Huntley will officially take over the Catamount cheerleading program in early June.
 
Huntley brings a wealth of experience to Cullowhee, having most recently served as an assistant cheerleading coach at Newberry College in Newberry, S.C. Her experience also includes serving as the head cheerleading and dance coach at Erskine College in Due West, S.C. She also served as an assistant cheer coach/choreographer at Lander University and Brevard College for two years.  
 
Originally from Hendersonville, N.C., Huntley received her Bachelor of Science in business administration from Lander University where she was a member of the cheerleading team. While at Lander, she served as the game day and competition captain from 2011-14 and was named the squad's MVP in 2012.  Huntley earned her Master of Health Administration from Queens University of Charlotte.
 
"I am incredibly honored to be joining the WCU Cheerleading program as the head coach," said Huntley. "I am looking forward to working with our student-athletes, coaches, and staff as we continue to grow and expand our university traditions. I am excited to get to work and lead a program that our student-athletes, alumni, and community can continue to be proud of." 
 
Huntley and Catamount cheerleading will hold open tryouts for the 2024-25 squad in the coming weeks with details and more information to be posted online at CatamountSports.com.
