Catamount Cheerleading 2025-26 Tryout Information

On-campus tryouts will be held on Saturday, April 26

Cullowhee, N.C. – Tryout information for the 2025-26 Western Carolina Cheerleading squad is now available. It includes an opening-round virtual or video stage with selected applicants to be invited to the Saturday, April 26, 2025, on-campus in-person tryout to set next season's cheerleading roster.

This year, the first round of the tryout process is through virtual or video skills submissions, not to exceed four minutes in length. The video application should include a brief introduction about you and featuring why you chose WCU and why you feel you'd be a good fit for WCU Cheer. Other highlights include cheers and chants, demonstrations of jumps and tumbling, and any experience with stunting highlights.

Video submissions should be accompanied by proof of acceptance to Western Carolina University, completed WCU Cheer application information and medical history, proof of a medical physical, proof of insurance, and a signed tryout participation waiver.

Applicants selected to come to campus on April 26, will provide candidates the opportunity to demonstrate skills and abilities to the coaching staff. Student-athletes will be evaluated on the cheerleading skill components such as standing tumbling, running tumbling, stunting, and spirit.

After the on-campus tryout, the student-athletes selected for the squad will be notified by head coach Corbin Huntley. A brief team meeting will occur once the 2025-26 team is selected.

WCU cheerleading is a small, competitive coed squad that performs at home Catamount football, men's and women's basketball games, as well as other various events such as parades and pep rallies intended to raise school spirit and help create a home advantage. The team performs both all-girl and co-ed stunts, while also working with other Catamount spirit teams such as the WCU Dance Team, "Pride of the Mountains" Marching Band, and Purple Thunder drum line on various routines.

As student-athletes, cheerleaders are required to comply with all WCU Athletics and NCAA rules and regulations. WCU Cheerleading is committed to the enrichment and engagement of our game-day atmosphere, leading our fans with excitement, poise, confidence, and fun!
