Cullowhee, N.C. – Due to the impact of Winter Storm Cora, the Western Carolina track and field teams will not compete at the Clemson Invitational which is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 11. The Catamounts will not make the trip to Clemson due to projected forecasts and hazardous travel conditions from western North Carolina into the South Carolina Upstate.
Originally slated for a 10 a.m. start on Saturday, the start of the Invitational was pushed back until Noon with officials at Clemson moving forward with plans to host the event at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex.
Weather forecasts continue to call for a wintry mix including several inches of sleet and snow, as well as the chance of freezing rain to blanket western North Carolina Friday and persist through the overnight hours into Saturday morning. Temperatures are not forecasted to crest the freezing mark locally until Sunday mid-morning.
WCU's track and field teams already have one meet under their belt for the 2024-25 indoor season as they competed at the Clemson Opener back in December, though the squads will wait a bit longer to see their first action of the New Year. WCU is set to next make an appearance at the Virginia Tech Invitational, the first two-day meet of the season, on January 17-18. The Catamounts return to Clemson for the Orange and Purple Invitational on January 24-25.
