Catamount Tennis Heads to Clemson for the Duckworth Fall Classic

Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis travels to South Carolina this weekend for the first annual Clemson-hosted Duckworth Fall Classic. Play in the Palmetto state is slated to begin at 10 a.m. at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility.

The Catamounts are one of five teams competing on the courts in Clemson for the hidden dual-style tournament, alongside the host Tigers, Notre Dame, Old Dominion, and fellow SoCon school Furman. Each of the four teams joining WCU in Clemson was ranked inside the top 50 teams to close out the 2025 spring season last year, with the Fighting Irish ranked 26th, Clemson 38th, ODU 43rd, and the Paladins 46th.

WCU will be paired with ODU for most of the fall tournament, with the Catamounts and Monarchs taking on the Paladins in Friday's first action at 10 a.m. The Catamounts then return to the courts around 12:30 p.m. as they battle the Fighting Irish in doubles play.
The Catamounts face just one opponent in competition on Saturday, squaring off against Clemson at 2:30/3:00 p.m. in singles play.

The Duckworth Fall Classic concludes on Sunday, Oct. 5, for the Catamounts, who will take on Notre Dame in singles action at 9 a.m. before battling the Tigers in doubles play at 11:30 a.m.

This weekend's tournament marks WCU's second of the fall season. The Catamounts competed in the Emily McNall Classic in Asheville. Freshman Jenelle Roberts was the sole Catamount to post an unblemished 3-0 singles performance that weekend, with sophomore transfer Mariya Dobreva going 2-1 in her matches. Additionally, returning sophomore Hokualohi Lui, freshman Axelle Van Beurden, and junior transfer Mia Miranda all recorded at least one victory in Asheville.

Up Next for The Catamounts:
The Catamounts will be back in action for the ITA Division I Regionals in Chapel Hill, N.C, on Oct. 16-21. They'll then return to action for the Southern Conference Masters Qualifier in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Oct. 24-26.
