Spartanburg, S.C. – Coming off a career-high 58 assists in a four-set victory over in-state rival UNCG, Western Carolina junior setter Katie Boney was today named Southern Conference Setter of the Week on Monday afternoon, receiving the award in back-to-back weeks for the second time in 2025 for her fourth weekly recognition overall.
With her fourth seasonal plaudit from the league, Boney is tied for third for the most career weekly honors for WCU via the Southern Conference. Boney tied WCU Hall of Famers Christy Attebery (1999-01) and Regina Brown (1989-90), just behind Destinee Dorsey (2020-21) with six, and Meagan Sanchez, who collected eight (2016 & 2019).
Boney's fourth weekly honor comes after pacing the SoCon in assists per set at 12.75, dishing out a league-best 102 helpers over eight sets last week. She sits atop the league in conference play with 160 helpers through four matches. The Brookhaven, Ga. native ranked fourth in the nation in assists per set last week as one of 19 players nationally to crest 100 assists for the week, adding to her league-high 561 over 15 seasonal matches. She also picked up 13 digs, while chipping in four service aces and a pair of kills in home action against ETSU and UNCG.
Boney opened October with 44 assists and seven digs in a tight four-set defeat at the hands of mountain-rival ETSU. Fifteen of Boney's helpers came in the third set, which WCU recorded 17 kills and hit a match-best .385 offensively. On Saturday, Boney put together a career night with a career-high 58 assists along with six digs and a pair of kills in a four-set triumph over UNCG. In the win, Boney averaged 14.5 assists per set, including 16 helpers in set two and 18 in the clinching fourth stanza.
Boney leads the SoCon with 561 assists (29th nationally) and is 16th in the NCAA with a 10.39 assists per set mark through the opening two weekends of SoCon play. She is 91 assists clear of the second-place setter in the conference, making her the lone player in the SoCon with over 500 assists.
